For tasks that feel harder than they look

Your hardest task deserves more than a checkbox.

TaskBane is a gamified task manager that turns your own words into quests and rewards the effort a task costs you—not how impressive it looks from the outside.

  1. The quest board: a legendary boss quest with its steps, the giver's line, and the XP it pays Your board
  2. The skill tree: two branches of square skill tiles, some earned, some still to buy Skills you pick
  3. The level-up ceremony: renown rising, with the unlocks it just bought listed The moment you level

The core difference

A two-minute task can still be a boss fight.

Most lists treat every checkbox as equal. TaskBane asks the more useful question: how much resistance did this cost you today?

A familiar quest

“Reply to the email I’ve avoided all week.”

Objective size: small. Personal effort: anything but.

Reply to the email I’ve avoided all week

Hard
Quest reward 125 XP

The task text stays exactly as you wrote it. Difficulty changes the reward—not your wording.

01

Score the resistance

A personal difficulty slider gives invisible effort visible weight.

02

Name today’s Frog

Pin the one task you keep circling so it cannot disappear under easy wins.

03

Use a method with teeth

Six real productivity systems come with an upside and a consequence.

04

Start fresh on purpose

A new month opens a new town while your long-term legend survives.

From stuck to started

Three moves. No lore homework.

TaskBane feels like a game, but the loop is deliberately practical. The real-world task always stays at the center.

Write it your way

Capture the task in your own words. Add a deadline, steps, or a place only when they help.

Name the resistance

Rate personal difficulty and, when needed, mark one avoided task as today’s Frog.

Finish. Let the world react.

Earn XP, build a completion chain, strengthen your standing, and watch the town recover.

Real methods, not cosmetic classes

The perk only matters because the trade-off is real.

A short quiz asks where your system usually breaks, then matches you to one of six productivity methods in RPG form.

Eat the Frog

Dragonsbane

PerkTake the Frog first for double XP and a guaranteed critical reward.
CostFinish three easier quests first and the Frog bonus is gone.
Kanban + WIP limits

Tactician

PerkKeep three or fewer active quests to earn a Flow bonus.
CostOpen a fourth quest and Flow breaks until the board is under control.
Pomodoro

Emberwright

PerkFinish inside a Focus sprint for a stronger reward.
CostWork outside the sprint and the class pays less.

Also in the roster: Getting Things Done, Don’t Break the Chain, and Ivy Lee prioritization. The costume is fantasy; the behavior change is not.

Practical scenarios

Built for the moments ordinary lists flatten.

Not every stuck day needs another reminder. Sometimes you need the system to recognize what is actually happening.

When one tiny task owns the whole day

Put the avoided thing at the top.

Mark the difficult email, call, or form as today’s Frog. It stays pinned above the rest of the board until you deal with it.

When your plan becomes 23 open loops

Make “less in progress” pay.

Quick-capture everything, then use the Tactician method to keep the active board to three quests and protect Flow.

When a missed routine starts a shame spiral

Keep habits out of the failure pile.

Morning and evening Rituals live apart from one-off tasks. They show a streak, but the screen never turns missed routines red.

When the month went sideways

Take the fresh start—keep the story.

A new calendar month opens a new town and renown climb. Your trophies, class, cosmetics, and lifetime record remain.

Augusthold at renown 1: collapsed roofs, dead trees and a dry fountain Augusthold at renown 10: roofs repaired, the fountain rebuilt, the woods coming back Augusthold at renown 20: a whole town, its watchtower standing and its fountain running

A whole town, its watchtower standing and its fountain running.

Progress you can see

The checklist clears. The town remembers.

Quest completion feeds a visible world: characters know your work, the town changes with your renown, and each month becomes a season with an ending.

Which client do you want?

Before you enter the gates.

Is TaskBane a game or a task manager?

A task manager first. The XP, classes, characters, and town make follow-through feel meaningful, but TaskBane never does the task for you or hides what you wrote under game language.

Do I need to understand RPGs?

No. Write a task, choose how hard it feels, and finish it. The deeper class, skill, gear, and town systems reveal themselves as you use the board.

Will TaskBane rewrite my tasks?

No. Your task wording remains verbatim. Character lines, labels, and rewards appear around it, while your own words remain the clearest part of the quest.

What happens when I miss a day?

You return and post the next quest. One-off quests and repeating Rituals stay separate, and Rituals never use red failure states. Monthly seasons also create a scheduled fresh start.

Where can I use it?

The web app works on modern browsers now. An Android beta is available as a direct download, and the iPhone TestFlight beta is coming soon.

How much does it cost?

TaskBane is free to start during the current beta. Open the web app to try the core quest loop.

One real task. Right now.

You already know which quest has been waiting.

Give it a name, score the resistance honestly, and let that be enough to begin.
